On 3rd June 2016, a Border Security Force convoy going from Jammu to Srinagar was targeted by armed terrorists near Brij Behera. Constable Mahendra Ram of 64 Bn BSF took weapon of a comrade and retaliated back. He was in the forefront of retaliation and received multiple bullet injuries in the indiscriminate fire from terrorists. He was subsequently evacuated to 92 BH Srinagar but succumbed to his injuries.
