On 12th March 2016, in heavily Naxal affected area of Sitram, district Kanker (Chattisgarh), a patrol party went for domination operation in the village Bechaghat. While returning, naxal ambushed the party and fired from two directions. Rakesh Nehra retaliated along with his associates, despite suffering multiple bullet injuries. Constable Rakesh Nehra later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
