CRPF troops deployed at Nowhatta Chowk, Srinagar for Independence Day celebration in the Kashmir Valley came under attack from the militants on August 15, 2016. When his troops were under fire from militants, Shri Pramod Kumar, Commandant rushed to the spot, led the operation against the militants from the front and fought valiantly. While advancing towards militants, he sustained bullet injuries and later succumbed to them and made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.rn
