A CRPF bus with Sub Inspector Sanjay Kumar Singh on board, alongwith others was returning from duty on June 25, 2016 when it was attacked by 02 Lashkar-e-Tayyaba militants at Farishtabal under PS Pampore, District Awantipora (J&K). The attack was retaliated promptly by SI Sanjay Kumar Singh and his team. Despite sustaining bullet injuries in initial firing,  Sub Inspector Sanjay Kumar Singh fought valiantly. He later succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom in the line of duty.
