| Brief of Incident: |
On 28 Jul 2020 at 2030hrs a column of 4 Assam Rifles comprising of 01 Junior Commissioned Officer and 14 Other Ranks from Company Operating Base Khongtal was launched in General Area point 1519 to carry out Area Domination. On 29 Jul 2020 at around 1830 hours, while the column was returning after completion of their operational task, the insurgents fired with Automatic Weapons and Lathode rounds after blasting an Improvised Explosive Devices. During the ensuing firefight Rifleman (General Duty) Ratan Salam was grievously injured but refused to give up and brought heavy fire on the insurgents forcing them to flee from the incident site thereby saving the lives of other soldiers in the column. Rifleman (General Duty) Ratan Salam as per the highest tradition of Assam Rifles displayed raw courage made supreme sacrifice by fearlessly fighting with the Insurgents.
