Shri B K Shyam  Niwas, Deputy Commandant, was leading a Search Operation on Konta-Banda Road, Police Station Konta, District Sukma (Chhattisgarh) on March 11, 2016, when an Improvised Explosive Device, planted by Maoists, exploded. Shri Shyam Niwas and his party repulsed the attack by Maoists but sustained serious injuries in the blast. Despite sustaining injuries, he retaliated the attack by Maoists. Later, during course of his treatment at Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital, Hyderabad, he succumbed to the injuries and laid down his life for the Nation.
