On 20/10/2018 at about 1745 Hrs, No 135052719 Ct/GD Umesh M Helavar of 143 Bn CRPF was returning after Govt. duty from Group Centre, Imphal by Govt. vehicle. When the vehicle was passing through Nagampal area under Police Station Imphal, unexpectedly an unknown miscreant hurled grenade into the moving vehicle from rear side. CT/GD Umesh M Helavar picked up grenade from the vehicle and tried to throw it in safe area devoid of locals. In that attempt grenade exploded in his hand and he took the entire impact of the grenade on himself thereby sacrificing his life and succumbed to the injuries of grenade explosion. Thus, he laid down his life in the line of duty to the Nation and made the supreme sacrifice.
