G/213555K Havildar (General Duty) Late Fatey Singh Negi was enrolled in Assam Rifles on 02 September 1989. On 17 June 2018, a column comprising of one officer, one JCO and 20 Other Ranks moved in two Tata-407 vehicles to Sowa Chinglen from Aboi Company Operating Base. The column further moved to Iron Bridge RC 294846 and linked up with Column of Longleng Company Operating Base. The party started moving back towards the Company Operating Base at 1300 hours. At approximately 1505 hours, the column reached near Iron Bridge RC 364873, four kilometers short of Aboi Company Operating Base. Suddenly the leading vehicle came under effective automatic fire from militants near the bridge that was preceded by explosion of two Improvised Explosive Devices. Havildar (General Duty) Late Fatey Singh Negi, who was driving the leading Tata-407 vehicle immediately tried to break contact and drove the vehicle away from the ambush site. However, the militants continued firing upon the vehicle in which Havildar (General Duty) Late Fatey Singh Negi sustained grievous gunshot wounds in his head. As the militants came under effective fire, they escaped taking advantage of bad weather and thick vegetation. Havildar (General Duty) Late Fatey Singh Negi was immediately taken to Primary Health Centre, Aboi for first aid and further evacuated to 5 Air Force Hospital, Jorhat by helicopter. He succumbed to his injuries enroute and was declared brought dead on 17 June 2018 at 1920 hours at 5 Air Force Hospital, Jorhat. Havildar (General Duty) Fatey Singh Negi made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the Nation in the best traditions of the Force.
