On 05 Jun 2018 at around 0220 hrs Company Operating Base Leimpong Shenga, Dist - Mon, Nagaland came under a standoff attack by unknown militant Cadres. Rifleman (General Duty) Rabindra Nath Modak was manning Post No 3, adjacent to the Officer Commanding residence on to which the militants fired eight rounds of Lathode grenade and 70 rounds of AK-47. Rifleman (General Duty) Rabindra Nath Modak suffered multiple splinter injuries as a result of grenade blast during the incident. The individual was immediately evacuated to Tactical Headquarters of 35 Assam Rifles by road at 0415 hrs and subsequently to 5 Air Force Hospital, Jorhat by helicopter at 0602hrs. Rifleman (General Duty) Rabindra Nath Modak was further evacuated to Command Hospital, Kolkata on 09 Jun 2018. The individual succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom on 14 Jun 2018 at 2100 hrs at Command Hospital, Kolkata. Rifleman (General Duty) Rabindra Nath Modak made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the Nation in the best traditions of the Force.
