On March 11, 2017, when Constable K. Shankar was on a Road Search Operation. During operation, Maoists triggered IED blasts and opened heavy fire on the troops at Bheji-Kottacheruvu axis, PS Bheji, District Sukma (Chhattisgarh). Constable K. Shankar sustained serious injuries in the encounter and succumbed to them attaining martyrdom.
